The Causal Theory of Action
The causal theory of action says that some activity is an intentional action if and only if it's caused in the right way by some appropriate mental items. So I'll use Davidson's climber case because that's probably the most widely discussed case of causal deviance. The presence of those mental items ends up unnerving them, they become nervous and they release the rope as a result of that.
