The Most Difficult Thing I've Encountered in Deuteronomy

Moses offers to give his life that God spare the people. There is no self-sacrifice in his prayer earlier. The Israelites really did deserve to be wiped out because of the violation of the first covenant principle. And they just signed on to it and here they violated that.
