Are discrepancies between different archaeologists, different researchers, interpreting a particular sird differently? I think it's probably better to say that it's differences of opinion. The way that different archaeologists take those definitions and apply them to sets of designs can vary significantly. There there's a whole lot more variation than the typology was able to accommodate at the time it was created.
