CHAPTER

How Many STEM Graduates Will There Be in China Between Now and 2040?

The recent demographic decline in China isn't really going to affect the calculation I just gave of producing around 5 million new STEM grads per year from Chinese colleges. That number is not going to be negatively affected by the recent decline in TFR in China until about 2040. But we are capable of making reasonable projections of how many STEM graduates there will be in China between now and 2040, and that number is about 5 million. Even if the number drops to 3 million a year in China, it's still six times on a per year basis, the number of STEM graduates that we produce in the United States.
