Identity and Identity Formation
The identities may subjectively perceive themselves as belonging to a different age group or gender, sometimes even a different species. Often these identities form an elaborate system to maintain psychological equilibrium which enables the person to cope with everyday life in a somewhat normal way. At the same time, specific identities may serve to accomplish specific tasks or functions. Some people report that they experience a kind of spatial inner world, where the identities reside. For example, as a room in which all identities live, or even as a whole house, with many rooms and a garden, in which the different identities make up a family.
