The Importance of Honor Culture in Urban African American Culture
In urban and ghetto communities, there is this kind of respect. There is a book called Code of the Streets that breaks down sort of the type of honor culture that developed from within urban African American culture. And it's something like I said that can be found in other cultures like in rural Sicily, they have kind of an honor culture. So unfortunately now it the the way you prove your honor is through criminal acts and violence to show that you're not quote unquote soft or whatever. If you don't demonstrate that you are a lot of these things in this communities, you will be considered an outcast,. You will be tossed aside.
