What Is Repentance?
The Oxford confession gives us a really helpful definition in article 12. It reminds us that just like confession has two parts repentance properly speaking has two parts. A person who's simply either just aware of his sin but doesn't know Jesus is not yet repentant we need to give him what he needs the gospel. But also a person who's refusing to confess his sins doesn't have repentance right. For then we would be leaving the sinner in the place that Judas was left. He knew his sin, but he didn't hear an absolution he had no promise of the gospel to trust in which Peter was given.
