Being results oriented is one of the worst mistakes you can make as a poker player. Eric has had the longevity that he's had because he's been very savvy about managing his money even when he's winning. He knows that no matter how much he wins now, that doesn't mean he'll keep winning at the same rate. So many players who could have been great players just went broke because they go on a hot streak.

The best chess and Go players in the world aren’t human beings any more; they’re artificially-intelligent computer programs. But the best poker players are still humans. Poker is a laboratory for understanding how rationality works in real-world situations: it features stochastic events, incomplete information, Bayesian updating, game theory, reading other people, a battle between emotions and reason, and real-world stakes.
