Disorganized Caregiving, Attachment and Care
The rules of approach or getting away get confused. A baby who was about to approach a parent in the strange situation, just stands there and freezes. What's that? A child goes hides under the table or behind the door. You're not going to read about that in biology. And so we wrote a chapter in our second disorganization book, disorganized caregiving, attachment and care. The phenomenon that we should be using te term is disregulated. They are frightened, they're hiding, they're angry, they're frozen. If some babies have been observed to dissociate, babies do dissociate. To say that this is disorganized doesn't really make sense any more.
