What's the First Artist You Loved?
I like to think of my work as tragicomic. I love Beckett, and I do think he's extraordinary. But there is pay for some hilarity and all the rest of it. It was one of the only subjects that was good at school. And we had very good art teachers, a married couple, who took a special interest in me. For me, it was an escape. Got quite a tyrannical father, schizophrenic mother. So I really needed to escape. That's why I ended up being an artist, I think.
