Dante says sin is either loving the wrong thing or it's loving the right thing in the wrong way. Louis actually wrote quite a bit about the idea that certain of the more dangerous sins are out of reach of the average, just sort of Joe run of the middle sinner. And he says that they can only be committed by men who have this potential for sanctity in them. He juxtaposes something very fanatical, I don't know, Spanish inquisitor or a figure like that who has a real love for holiness but it isn't balanced out by any kind of human charity.
