The State of Power
Even as a child, I was obsessed with making maps of imaginary countries or real countries. And so the first thing I do really is to get my bearings and work out where everything is. The geography of power fascinates me. Richard Naylor, my regicide hunter, walks from Essex, along the strand to a Whitehall palace. One of the regicides that I follow particularly, Colonel Edward Whaley, lived in King Street next door to the palace of Whitehall because he was Cromwell's cousin.
