Even with the new techniques, my understanding is that they tend to be highly specialized. If you train something to recognize some types of objects and photos, it can't play chess against you. I think there's like a growing field of like multitask, but it's not so broad yet. But one of the frontiers is like, can we have one model that says, do does a bunch of different NLP tasks like translation and conversational modeling?
