Is Africa at the centre of a new cold war?

The Fourcast

CHAPTER

The History of Africa

The reason why partly African nations won't immediately side with the West when it comes to the Ukraine war is to do with history and the scramble for Africa. Europeans began arriving in Africa from the 15th century, but in 1884 the major European powers met to essentially carve up the continent between them. This was the Age of Empire. The Cold War saw the eastern West fight over Africa and one could argue that those memories still last today. And indeed the present battles that we're talking about today mirrors in some ways the old battles of the past.
