The Effect of McCarthy on Fiction Writers

McCarthy's oeuvre generally is the first participant in that conversation to me that is clearly inspired by cinema. The way the scenes work, there is a cinematic quality to it. I'm a dramatist and the dramaturgy of this works on something of a different level. There's enough in here that it's going to be a war shock and it'll meet you where you are. And you're going to have your own. It's also very, very funny. You should probably have your dictionary open when you're reading this novel.
