Each time there is a hiccup, there's a sudden and just transient increase in abdominal pressure. Babies don't have the muscle control for this until those reflexes occur. Charlie Osborne's hiccups stopped mysteriously in 1990 after he'd hiccuped an estimated 430 million times. He died a few months later.
