So in Russia, which was still basically governed by a monarch with a quasi-futal land-owning aristocracy, where capitalism was just getting started, capitalists and liberal intellectuals were waving around desk happy towel. But where the Russian populist socialist appreciated Marx and Engels' analysis and critiques of capitalism, they were disgusted by their attitudes towards the peasants.
