Marco Polo's Role in Yang Zhao
Marco Polo said that he governed Yang Zhao for three years in lieu of the local barren. This is one whopper of a tale, and there's virtually no chance it's true. In this part of the book, Marco says that he and his father and uncle showed the mongrels how to make a counterweight trebuche which was then used by them to help capture Xi'an Yang. The battle took place in 1273, two years before the polos even arrived in China.
