Episode CXXVIII - Cornelia, Mother of the Gracchi (Gracchi I)

Emperors of Rome

CHAPTER

Having a Wife Is a Good Idea, I Suppose

Tacitus says that public speaking was better when children were up by their mothers. Cornelia is said to have brought greek scholars who were in rome into her household. She indicated her sons and said, these are my jewels, prizing her children above glittery things. It's a tale that has probably kind of grown by accretion, just because cornelia's seen us this good mother.
