The club girls are recruited from the bottom of the fashion modelling industry. The women get dinner for free, so that the food comes out family style, and they eat for free. They then go with him to the night club, which is either usually upstairs, or attached in some way or ther the managers are connected. In this all arrangement, how happy are the club girls? But relative to their peers, who would otherwise be demographically similar? It's an interesting question....

Ashley Mears is a former fashion model turned academic sociologist, and her book Very Important People: Status and Beauty in the Global Party Circuit is one of Tyler’s favorites of the year. The book, the result of eighteen months of field research, describes how young women exchange “bodily capital” for free drinks and access to glamorous events, boosting the status of the big-spending men they accompany.
