Good and bad fortune isn't the thing that matters to our happiness or wholeness. What matters instead is our state of mind, which we all have the gifts to control. The gods are trying to get you to think about your own life and the world around you in such a way that you understand that it's not the thing that happen to you that impact your character after death.
