The Dangers of Mass Emigration

There's no planet B for ordinary risk averse people. We should encourage people to go to Mars but that's less comfortable than living at the South Pole. And I think actually looking further ahead I think we should cheer on those who do try to establish a colony on Mars even though it will be against the odds uncomfortable. Those people will have every incentive to use all the techniques of genetic modification and cyborg techniques to adapt themselves. So they may prefer zero G and they may not need to be on a planet at all. The post-human era will start from them.
