The Lazy Rock Ant

Professor Dan Charbonneau is an expert in insect behaviour. His research has focused on ant colonies, a species called Temnothorax Regartalus. But roughly about half the colony is inactive at any given time. Could it simply be that they don't work because they don't need to? Would you get out of bed if you didn't have to?
