The Importance of Females in Basic Research
Scientists have to justify not using females in basic research. During the average human menstrual cycle, women experience about an eightfold change in estrogen and an 80 fold change in progesterone. Most of these kinds of studies involve a big group of people who come in for just one visit on one day. Studies that sample the brain at one time point can't tell us anything about how the brain changes day to day or week to week.
