The 28th verse of the Bhagavad Gita is called Sanjnaasa. In all my actions, in all my possessions, not my possessions, everything belongs to the Lord and all activities are done for the Lord. We become free of the good and evil effects of karma. This is equal to monasticism - it's not putting on fancy dress. It's what Krishna considers to be a revolutionary way of life.
