The Disconnection Between Portrait Painting and Life

I'm fascinated in the opening of your book you mentioned how you know you're not a portrait painter if anything you have always been an autobiography and chronicler of life and family. Lucian Freud was always much more of a portrait painter than I am yes he always talked to people when they were sitting for him because he liked to see the kind of way they were in movement and how their mouth worked  and what they looked like when they smiled or this kind of thing. That again is very very foreign to the way I I work as also my mother who even at that point gave herself utterly to the experience of sitting is like a kind of a living thing in a still lifeYes so
