The Air New Zealand Pilot's Flight Plan Error
The flight plan used at the briefing that they had attended had an error in it for 14 months and no one had caught it. The majority of the previous 13 flights flew over McMurdo sound unaware that they were in the wrong spot. Air New Zealand's ground computer showed the path to fly over the McMurdoSound, not over Mount Arabas. And the crew was not told of the correction. They didn't see the mountain. So it just blends into the... It just blended into everything else. That's crazy. This kind of thing happens down there."
