CHAPTER

The Effects of MDMA on Oxytocin Levels

People given either 0.75 or 1.5 milligrams per kilogram of body weight of MDMA experienced increases in oxytocin. In the placebo group, the amount of circulating oxytocin was 18.6 pico grams per milliliter. That equates to nearly a fivefold increase when people are under the influence of MDMA. The key takeaway from the study for sake of our discussion here today is that it does not appear that the increases in Oxytocin produced by taking MDMA are the source of the prosocial effects of MDMA.
