What Is Teacherly Authority?
In his new book, The Power of the Cliche, John Perry argues that education and propaganda are two different things. A good teacher wants their students to know as much as them or more than they do. Propaganda is a situation where there's an asymmetry in information shared by people who don't even know each other well enough to be able to agree on what should be done about it. In both cases, he says, you have to control your own mind when dealing with others' minds.
