When the woman was young, old enough to fly on her own wings, she flew mostly in the wake of her mother and her uncle's wings. When she was that age, the people from the other side of the sky came through and began to sing new songs to her people. They sang of places that were all plant, all water, of constellations that weren't star and oasis, but were networks of fire and metal. Her family went along with them for a time, following the stranger's wake down into the desert.
