Tertullian on the Soul
Tertullian was steeped in philosophical knowledge, and even well read in medical literature. He ally himself with Stoics who describe the soul as a sort of pneuma or breath. A physical account of the soul puts it in its rightful place: The soul is created, not divine. Jerome's contrary position brings together several strands of the Latin-patristic tradition.
