March on Versailles
On the morning of march nineteenth, paris was essentially under armed occupation by the national guard. And so the central committee of the national guard became, by default, the provisional government of paris. With this responsibility having defaulted into their lap they had to decide what to do with it. The blanquis on the committee argued forcebly that the only way to go was to march on versailles and overthrow tierre. After a lengthy and heated debate over the night of march eighteenth and nineteenth, the central committee voted to proceed with elections rather than marching on versailles. Now in hindsigt this look like it may have been a mistake. If this revolution is going to succeed
