Prayer to mary dates back to the third centuryn an egyptian papyrus. The second vatican council in lumingentium does talk about this, as do preceding councils. Cyprian of carthage in the 200 says, let us remember one another in concord and unanimity. Let us on both sides of death always pray for one another. And saint augustine is very clear on this. This is very clear.
