The Gesture in the Poem

This was towards the end of his life. He probably wasn't thinking much about death at that point. It kind of made me think of that idea that we're spiritual beings on a human journey. Gold is a very soft metal, it's a terrible metal to choose as armor. That might be something that you might wear in a ceremonial way almost. And I suppose that does kind of point to an idealized thing or something that's something that is more spiritual than gold.
