The Body Isn't Just a Carnation Affair
The emphasis on the body, the assetic practice is even through to the modern day. In platonism, do we see a synonymous form of understanding that the body is still this important thing? If you believe the flesh is inherently evil, then Jesus could not have become a man, or it would have dirtied him. The gnostics believed as god, but he wasn't man. What they believed was that jesus just wore the flesh, like i'm wearing the shirt, and i'll take it off to night. But their theology was ultimately good ideas about dealing with corruption.
