The Importance of Machine Learning in Discovery Biology
I was expecting you to emphasize the sort of machine learning AI part of the why now, but that the biology part seems even more important. I would say that they are both really important. The large language models, we would still be in the world of random forests and very simple supervision tasks. So the fact that machine learning has moved us beyond that to this notion of learning a language is what enables us to use it for discovery biology.
