The Evolution of Hibernation

Tim Rutherford: What are the reasons why we can't hibernate much as though many people would absolutely love to throughout the whole of December and January? There was a paper published around 1900 that had studied a group of people in Russia, and it was supposedly evidence of a human tribe that could hibernate. However, since then, no further evidence has been found of that tribe. So I wouldn't rule it out completely. And certainly we do change our rhythms and our bodies during the winter period. It's the spectrum and we're at one end of the spectrum and the extreme hibernators are at the other end of the continuum.
