The Complexity of Population Ethics

The root meaning of the word euthanasia is a good death, implying that the death is good for the one that's dying in the best of our judgment. And then the more difficult questions are the ones that you mentioned about humane farming of various kinds. Is it a bad thing to have hens who live for a certain number of years, but not their full life and are then killed? I find that a difficult philosophical question. It gets into these quite complex issues about whether it's, if you have a life that is clearly on balance, a positive one, but a condition of that existence at all is that you get killed at some point.
