The Balance of Humor and Cruelty

I don't think he's ever made a joke. I've never heard him say anything actually funny. He just relies on sort of quick stereotypes or cultural tropes to make quote unquote jokes. And people laugh sometimes because they agree with his cruelty, or they recognize that what he's saying is supposed to be funny. But I cannot picture him actually telling a joke. There was some self-deprecation in it but there was also an inherent cruelty in his humor. The modern conservative movement took all of the cruelty and none of the humor. They've amputated whatever frivolity has been left.
