In vision, there are far more connections going from the inside of the brain back out towards the eyes than there are coming in the other directions. And that was always a puzzle for neuroanatomists and neuroscientists to explain why should it be like this? And it begins to make sense if you start to think, well, actually, it's this process of generating predictions. That's the really important thing. The sensory information is just carrying the error, the prediction error between what the brain expects and what it gets. So anatomically, we've got some suggestive evidence. And then there's a ton of fascinating experimental evidence.
