Mount Pinatubo's sulphur eruption in 1815 had a significant cooling effect on the northern hemisphere. The news reaches London at the end of 1815, and reached America by summer of 1816. There is much discussion of what it means - but people can't put together the very poor weather they're experiencing with all its effects.
