The Nemesis of the White Buffalo Woman
Ancient greeks had a concept known as idos, which meant a reverence for the transpersonal powers of existence. A lack of idos called forth the energy of nemesis, a kind of cosmic retribution. And something like this dynamic is portrayed in the story of the white buffalo woman. Two hunters are approached by a mysterious and powerful figure. One of the hunters recognizes her as a sacred woman and approaches her in the right spirit. But the other, who sees her as an object to satisfy his personal desire, ends up a pile of bones being eaten by terrible snakes.
