The child care sector is in crisis, with thousands of businesses closing within a year. Many women working looking after children on very low wages have little career progression and leverage. Getting early years right is the foundation of a good education. We need to change all the rules that mean local authorities are the last resort in terms of providing nurseries and child care provision in a local community. The child care co-op movement is massive but we could grow that substantially. That would be a fundamental revolution in how we do child care.
