The Great Fire of Rome

In 64 AD, the Great Fire of Rome destroyed three of the 14 districts of Rome. The fire broke out near the circus maximus and quickly raged out of control. There was no clear cause and in its aftermath rumors began to fly that perhaps Nero was behind the whole thing. With the Romans already suspicious of those weirdo Christian cultists, Nero guessed that it would be easy to fan the flames of bigotry by blaming them for starting the blaze.
