CNN's John Sutter has been studying self-persuasion for a decade. He says it can be hard to persuade other people, but much easier to persuade yourself. One of his latest projects involved writing persuasive essays about being generous toward others. The essay writers then followed through on their own advice and became kinder towards those who weren't immediately part of their in groups.
