The brain is well aware of how much sleep that our mind and body will function optimally on. And if we sort of let it do its thing, it will give us sort of what we're looking for. Humans can survive on tremendous amounts of little sleep. There's a training to become a seal in the U.S. where they allow them about 14 hours of sleep per week - two hours a night.
