Last year, Congress President Felix Tishikade said he was finally going to do something about it. He declared martial law in the two worst affected provinces of North Kiebou and Turi. The soldiers claim that this has brought some peace and security to the region. But a conflict monitoring organisation found there were more attacks by various armed groups in the east in 2021 than at any time since they began monitoring in 2017.
