A lot of people get more motivated to accomplish a goal around some kind of temporal landmark in the calendar. Research would indicate that there's a bit of a fallacy built into that, that's kind of baked into our psychology. So simply setting a new year's resolution is not fully sufficient for guaranteeing success. But temporal landmarks can be a nice little boost for motivation. If you couple that with really good goal setting strategies, there's no reason that you can't be successful with a really nice new year's resolutions.
