The History of Ideas and Philosophy
You can't do serious history of philosophy without some history of ideas. In any worthwhile work of either kind, there are going to be elements of the other. Why do you think there is this difference between the sciences and philosophy in this respect? To put it very, very crudely, I think what this reflects is the fact that philosophy is not concerned with discovery in the same way as physics.
