Shakespearean Comedy - Shakespeare and the Gods

In the universe of Shakespearean tragedy the gods that govern the protagonists lives are beyond the remit of the protagonists' invocations. Whereas in the world of comedy the protagonists walk among the demigods, they walk through the forest and they're not so different from their sprightly counterparts. In addition to the unforgettable cast of characters, yes Shakespeare has four inexhaustible personages and he has at least a dozen more nearly inexhaustible characters. We find ourselves falling in simpatico with personages that we may have once thought to be completely dissimilar from ourselves and we think hey I recognise a little bit of myself in them.
